Legendary animator Bruce Bickford is an underground artist whose http://www.fingermedia.tw/?p=1322805 work has influenced generations of animators around the world. He is perhaps best known for his collaborations with musician Frank Zappa in the 1970s (Baby Snakes) and as the subject of Brett Ingram’s 2004 documentary Monster Road. PLASTIC PAPER is pleased to present the Winnipeg premiere of Bickford’s Cas’l – a surreal 45-minute stop-motion clay animated film that is screening as a work in progress (it has been in production since 1990). Finding a linear plot in Bickford’s work is at times difficult, but in the simplest terms, Cas’l is a maelstrom of anxiety: disembodied heads morph into milkshakes and hamburgers while a war rages inside a discothequein the forest. As the film has no sound, it will be accompanied by a live score composed specifically for this screening by progressive psych band Mahogany Frog.
