Using a mix of powerpoint, spoken word and hand-drawn biographical anecdotes, Montreal artist Rick Trembles narrates how he first got into macabre movies and comic books as a youngster influenced by the Canadian WWII comics his father published, and how Trembles merged the two in the early 80s when his movie review/comic strip Motion Picture Purgatory started running in the Montreal Mirror. The presentation details how the strips bumpy early controversial history meshes with Trembles’ own personal life and continuing censorship battles, while giving insight into his patented process of condensing pertinent plot points via creepy x-ray vision cross-sections, maniacal maze-like aerial views, and screwy schematics!

Rick Trembles’ critically acclaimed hybrid comic strip movie criticism column Motion Picture Purgatory has been appearing every week in the Montreal Mirror since 1998 (after originating in the same pages with the paper’s inception in the 80’s). Trembles continues to make animated short films that occasionally drug hair loss propecia tour the globe (some award-winning), & play in his 30-year-old post-punk band The American Devices. His work has been featured in numerous galleries & published internationally. The L.A. Times called him “a famous free thinker.” English Professor at Concordia University, Marcie Frank, featured Trembles womans levitra in her chapter about comix for the book QUEER DIASPORAS (Duke University Press).

Kier-La Janisse is a film writer, publisher, producer, acquisitions executive for Severin Films and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Communication and Creative Arts at Deakin University. She is the author of Cockfight: A Fable of Failure (2024), House of Psychotic Women: An Autobiographical Topography of Female Neurosis in Horror and Exploitation Films (2012/2022) and A Violent Professional: The Films of Luciano Rossi (2007) and has been an editor on numerous books including Warped & Faded: Weird Wednesday and the Birth of the American Genre Film Archive (2021) and Satanic Panic: Pop-Cultural Paranoia in the 1980s (2015). She wrote, directed and produced the award-winning documentary Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror (2021), and produced the acclaimed blu-ray box sets All the Haunts Be Ours: A Compendium of Folk Horror (2021) and The Sensual World of Black Emanuelle (2023).
