DJ XL5’s Rockin’ Zappin’ Party!

Every year since 2004 DJ XL5 has presented short-film programs that function as veritable self-contained film festivals, accenting the “festive” in that word. He links together the short films with other assorted footage to http://www.spectacularoptical.ca/2021/03/order-viagra-no-prescription/ simulate a worthwhile night of rapid-fire channel-surfing. Mixing in musical fragments order levitra now and countless pop-culture riffs, DJ XL5 transforms mere screenings into true collective happenings.

Again this year he gathers more than 30 short films from Europe and the Americas. This year’s program marks the return of Simon’s Cat, that endearingly egocentric feline created by the U.K.’s Simon Tofield, with four new clips — THE BOX, SANTA CLAWS, CAT CHAT and STICKY TAPE — making their provincial debut. From the U.S., Adam Green (HATCHET) brings two hilarious shorts, JUST TAKE ONE and the fake advert SABER (look out for an appearance by AJ Bowen, interviewed on today’s Spectacular Optical here), both also provincial premieres. From Spain, it’s the Canadian premiere of the gleefully gore-soaked BRUTAL RELAX by Adrián Cardona, Rafa Dengrá and David Muñoz. Germany ships over the highly irreverent INFERNAL NUNS by Roland Petrizza, also a Canadian premiere. Meanwhile, it’s a world premiere for American Sam Carter’s SHADOW PUPPETS. Stop-motion magician PES returns with THE DEEP, a provincial premiere. Tim Heiderich, from the U.S., offers some sage advice by way of his EMERGENCY 411 series, of which we show four.

A hearty heap of films tailor-made for DJ XL5’s off-the-wall attitude come from right here in Quebec. Treat yourself to a parade of mock televisions ads like Olaf Svenson’s RODÉO, 2 HORRIFYING TALES TO BE SCARED ON HALLOWEEN by Philippe Toupin and Charlotte Beaudoin Pelletier, Philippe Thouin’s BIRDS IN 3D, GRAISSE by Carnior, H1N1 DÉFLAGRATION by Simon Beaupré, KILLER CLOSETS FROM OUTER SPACE by Philippe Larocque and Lionel May, KALASHNIPOT from Eddie 69 and Roadkill Superstar, Pierrot Néron’s FUNKY JESUS and the ingenious ALEXA by Patrick Poéris levitra schweiz and Isabelle Gaumont. Patrick Boivin is back with a vengeance, with BLACK WIDOW GONE WILD, and Carnoir goes nuts with the fake clog ad CROTTES. Also on tap: a bunch of world premieres of animation work by emerging talents like Antoine Gaumont Lampron (UNE FIN DE LOUP), Simon Takerkart (AU CUBE), Thomas Chrétien (MAXIMUM GALAXIE), Alexandrine Loumouamou (TOMBER DE HAUT), Steve Ouellette (COBAYE EN FUITE) and Maxime Vignola (TEMPS MORT).

Trashy videos, arcane advertisements and dumbfounding musical performances accompany the audience to its seats. Get there early!
